In Utah County when I first moved to Utah back in 1984, the Utah Transit Authority ran it's bus service through what was then called The University Mall. It was the only mall in Utah County at that time. They ran a small service by what is now a Sporting Goods store and Food Court. But on the 20th of August 2000, the service was getting so large, the population was booming in Utah County, particularly in the Orem/Provo area, U.T.A. built the Timpanogos Transit Center to accommodate the larger passenger base and the ever expanding University Mall.
Jump forward to today, shy 8 days prior to exactly 18 years later, the population is expanding once again to record highs, University Mall is now known as University Place and has expanded into the parking lots of the property and now this station, beginning on Monday, the 13th will be no more. The U.T.A. service is opening what will be known as UVX (Bus Rapid Transit), "light rail on rubber tires." The new "University Place" station will be located right on University Parkway just south of University Place about a 2-3 minute walk from the Timpanogos Transit Center.
I took some photos before my personally last departure from this station yesterday, Friday, August 10th, 2018. I never really looked at this station before yesterday and came to admire the architecture, its beauty, its uniqueness. It will be missed, but it's exciting to see things grow and expand, hopefully for the better and will make for an even more efficient transit system for Utah County.
